Our Pastor, Our Story

Pastor Ruben Perez was born on June 18 1956 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

He is child number 10 of Pastor Jose (Pepito) and Carmen Perez. Ruben was born and raised in a Christian family. When he was 4 years old he boldly declared that he was going to be a pastor and a doctor. He served in the church ever since he was a child. At 12 he preached his first message and at the age of 16 he gave an evangelistic campaign in the Dominican Republic. In addition, he was a youth pastor, teacher, elder and leader of children.

He always had a love for souls and a special interest in education. He graduated from the Bible Institute of Assemblies of God, in Orlando. During his teenage years he focused on his studies which were directed towards medicine. He graduated Magna Cum Laude (high honors) from the University of Puerto Rico and at the age of 24 he received the degree of Doctor in Medicine.

In 1981 along with his only childhood girlfriend and wife, Astrid, moved to New York City and then Michigan where he did his medical specialties. During his training, he experienced first hand how families suffered due to spiritual, social, emotional, and physical problems. In the summer of 1986 he completed his two medical specialties: Family Medicine and Internal Medicine.

In 1993, God revealed to him that he was going to be a pastor of a large church and in the fall of 1994 while on his way to Kissimmee to preach, God spoke to him audibly that he was going to be a pastor. On 17 June 1995, while driving on John Young Parkway, God spoke to him audibly again saying ‘that land is for the church.’

His calling was confirmed in many different ways. One of those that stands out was when his own brother came from Puerto Rico and told him how he had been running from his pastoral call his entire life and it was time to stop running. Long story short, the church began on October 8th 1995 with just 12 people and has grown since to 800 thriving members. We trust that Christ will continue to bring more lives unto Him through our church and we pray that you’ll be a part of what God is doing at Pavilion Church.
